After reading Ginesberg and Whitman's poems, it is easy to conclude that both writers have very similar ideas and stylistic choices. They both directly comment on recent events and convey their belief of right and wrong. But the two writers are different in their tone in voice. Whitman's poems have a more positive view on the world and he believes that everything is only going to get better. But Ginsberg talks with a condemning tone, openly criticizing America in his poem "America." He seems outraged by the actions of America and wants to point out those devilish actions to world. The difference in both writer' stones are results of their time period. Whitman was writing around the end of the civil war. The enfranchisement of the blacks restored faith in him that America will only go uphill from there. Whereas Ginsberg was writing during the civil war. He was annoyed by the American unpeaceful actions at that time and was specifically disappointed with the dropping of the two atomic bombs. Taking both poets' time periods into consideration can explain the dramatic difference in their opinions and styles of poetry.
